ABOUT AN CUAN

We call YWAM’s building “An Cuan” (on-koo-in), which is Irish for "The Harbour." It is a place where people come and rest, are restored, equipped and then sent out again.

YWAM has been working on the island in various ways since the 70’s including discipleship training, media and arts ministries, family counseling, running breakfast clubs, forgiveness programs in schools and reconciliation conferences.

The year 2010 marked a moment of transition for us as we were gifted the former Christian Renewal Centre in Rostrevor. This iconic centre had been a house of prayer, reconciliation and spiritual renewal for over 35 years. We were honoured to take on the baton and have now developed the centre as our main regional base for YWAM Ireland.

We run Discipleship Training Schools, Open Mic nights, worship gatherings, ministry nights, craft markets, retreats and other seminars, as well as helping local ministries and sending teams all around Ireland and the world. We have loved welcoming thousands of people through our doors.

About Rostrevor

An Cuan resides in the beautiful village of Rostrevor, County Down between the foothills of the Mourne Mountains and the shores of Carlingford Lough. It has been a popular destination for tourists who come for Kilbroney Park’s hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities, while also enjoying the numerous pubs and restaurants of the village.

The famous writer, C.S. Lewis, as a young boy, spent much holiday time in the Mournes and Rostrevor in particular, allowing him to imagine, dream and wonder, and inspiring his creation of the magical world of Narnia. ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ have sold over 100 million copies. Lewis is reported to have written a letter to his brother saying:

That part of Rostrevor which overlooks Carlingford Lough is my idea of Narnia
